Since 2017, Lofty Sky Entertainment has been creating engaging experiences in games, film, TV, and virtual reality. The Toronto-based team garnered critical acclaim for their latest animated documentary, Eternal Spring, which was chosen as Canada’s official entry to the 2023 Oscars® for best international feature film in addition to winning 27 international awards and nominations at the 50th Annie Awards and 84th Peabody Awards. Shuyan Saga, their first narrative game title, was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award, has 90% positive reviews on Steam and is now available on console platforms. Their new sci-fi narrative game Sky of Tides won GDC Pitch in 2023 and was nominated for Best in Play at GDC in 2024.
Produced by Jason Loftus, the award-winning director of Eternal Spring and producer of Lofty Sky’s multi-media properties, Sky of Tides was created by a diverse team of artists and developers led by creative director Judith Cheung and senior game designer Lan Roed. The Pearman Brothers wrote both the game and the TV series based on world design by Lina Skorbach.
The studio is majority-owned by executive producer Masha Loftus and features a creative environment that fosters unique and original gameplay and characters that may not have been seen on screen before. “The lead protagonists in both the game and TV series are young females, and they aren’t sexualized,” says Judith Cheung. “That was something that came quite naturally, but I feel a great source of pride making something I can enjoy with my girls knowing they are represented in the IP, because I didn’t always have that growing up.”
